Square slices of citrus upside-down cake decorated with white icing ghosts with candy eyes for Halloween, served on a wooden board.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup Schnucks unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup Schnucks brown sugar, packed
  • 1 lemon, thinly sliced
  • 1 medium pear, thinly sliced
  • 1 blood orange, thinly sliced
  • 1 (13.25 oz.) pkg. Food Club yellow deluxe cake mix

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Coat a 9x13-inch baking dish with cooking spray. Pour butter into prepared baking dish and top evenly with brown sugar. Arrange lemon, pear and orange slices in overlapping rows to create an ombré effect from lightest to darkest.
  2. Prepare cake mix according to package directions; pour evenly over fruit. Bake 35–40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Cool in pan 10 minutes. Runa knife around the edges and carefully invert onto a cutting board or serving tray. Cool at room temperature, 35 minutes. Cut into 12 squares and serve.

Chef’s Tip: Give this dessert a ghostly touch and bring this to a Halloween gathering! Microwave 1/2 cup white chocolate in 15-second intervals, stirring until smooth. Chill until slightly firm, then dollop onto the cake and use the back of spoon to smear and create ghost shapes. Finish with candy eyes.
