Sweet and Savory Sausage Bake With Apples and Cheddar

Ingredients

  • 8 oz. Schnucks bulk country sausage
  • 1 small yellow onion, diced (about 1/2 cup)
  • 2 large Schnucks eggs
  • 1/2 cup Schnucks 2% milk
  • 1 tsp. Schnucks Dijon mustard
  • 2 cups apple, diced
  • 2 cups cubed sourdough bread (day-old preferred)
  • 3/4 cup Schnucks shredded sharp cheddar cheese, divided

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Lightly coat an 8x8-inch baking dish with cooking spray.
  2. In a medium skillet over medium heat, cook sausage with onion until browned and cooked through, about 5 minutes.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk and Dijon. Stir in apple, bread, sausage mixture and half the cheese. Pour into prepared baking dish and top with remaining cheese.
  4. Bake, uncovered, until golden and barely jiggling, 20–25 minutes. Let rest 5 minutes before serving.

Chef tip: Replace apple with diced pears or figs, or a combination.
