Ingredients

Sugar Cookies

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/2 tsp. pure vanilla extract
  • 4 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt

Royal Icing

  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 3 tbsp. milk
  • 5 drops food coloring of choice
  • 2 tbsp. corn syrup

Buttercream Frosting

  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups unsalted butter
  • 3 tbsp. heavy cream
  • 1 tbsp. pure vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp. salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F. Beat butter and sugar with mixer on high speed until smooth, about three minutes. Add eggs and vanilla.
  2. Reduce mixer speed to low. In a separate large bowl, combine flour, baking powder and salt; gradually add to wet ingredients.
  3. Refrigerate dough for forty-five minutes. On a floured surface, roll out dough to about 1/4-inch thick and cut into desired shapes.
  4. Place shapes on foil-lined baking sheet. Refrigerate for an additional fifteen minutes.
  5. Bake 6-8 minutes. Let cool until firm enough to transfer to a cooling rack. Decorate as desired.
  6. In a large bowl, whisk together two cups powdered sugar, three tablespoons milk, five drops food coloring of choice and two tablespoons corn syrup until smooth.
  7. Beat four cups powdered sugar and 1 1/2 cups Schnucks unsalted butter on low speed until combined.
  8. Add three tablespoons heavy cream, one tablespoon vanilla and 1/4 teaspoon salt; continue beating until fluffy.
