4 Serving(s)
Ingredients
- 2 lbs. Smithfield® Ground Pork
- 1 tbsp. salt-free burger or steak seasoning
- 1 medium yellow onion (halved and thinly sliced)
- 8 slices smoked cheddar cheese
- 4 sesame seed hamburger buns
- favorite barbecue sauce, lettuce, pickles and/or tomato slices, for serving
Instructions
- In a large bowl, gently mix ground pork, seasoning and salt and pepper to taste; do not overmix. Divide the mixture into 8 equal portions and shape each portion into a ball.
- Heat a griddle or large skillet over medium-high heat. Add onion; cook 5 minutes or until tender and starting to brown, stirring occasionally. Transfer onion to a plate. In batches, if necessary, add pork to the griddle and immediately press down with spatula to flatten into thin patties; cook 3 minutes or until golden brown. Turn patties. Top patties with cheese and onion; cook about 3 minutes until the internal temperature reaches 160° F and cheese is melted. During last minute of cooking, place buns, cut side down, on griddle; cook 1 minute or until lightly toasted.
- Spread cut sides of top buns with barbecue sauce, if desired; serve 2 patties in each bun topped with lettuce, pickles and/or tomato, if desired. Makes 4 double decker-burgers.
